Industrial HMI & Operator Panels

Industrial HMI and operator panels give operators a clear interface to monitor and control machines. SCN supplies HMIs and operator panels from Weintek and Yaskawa, including cMT series HMIs with 7 to 15.6 inch TFT or WVA displays and TP series operator panels such as the TP 606C, TP 608C, TP 610C and TP 612C. The range also includes distributed I/O such as the IR-ETN Modbus slave, for machine building and industrial automation. Our engineers help you choose the right display size, interface and mounting for your application.

Industrial HMI and operator panels – touchscreens for machine control and monitoring

An HMI (human-machine interface) is the screen where operators see machine status, alarms and trends and enter setpoints and commands. In industry it is usually a touch panel mounted in a cabinet door and connected to the PLC over Ethernet or a serial port. SCN supplies HMIs and operator panels from Weintek and Yaskawa, configured with EasyBuilder Pro or Movicon.

The HMI panels range covers Weintek cMT X panels from 4.3 to 15.6 inches with IP66 fronts, wide-angle or Full HD IPS displays and CAN bus, Yaskawa TP-SM panels in 4.3, 7 and 10.1 inches, and TP C panels from 6.5 to 12 inches with Movicon CE. The screenless cMT-SVR servers and the cMT-FHDX-820 with HDMI output run the HMI project on a DIN rail and show it on a tablet, PC or any monitor. Under Distributed I/O you find Weintek iR couplers for Modbus TCP, CANopen and EtherCAT. The controllers are under PLC systems, and all control products under Control Systems.

How to choose: start with the screen size the operator needs, check which protocol your PLC uses, then the front protection, operating temperature and whether you want remote access or a screenless HMI.

Frequently asked questions

What is an HMI?

An HMI, short for human-machine interface, is the display and software operators use to monitor and control a machine or process. It shows live values, alarms and trends from the PLC and sends commands back, replacing push buttons and indicator lamps. Industrial HMIs such as the Weintek cMT series run on 24 V DC, have IP66 fronts and log alarms and data.

How do you connect an HMI to a PLC?

You connect the HMI to the PLC over Ethernet or RS-232/RS-485 and select the matching PLC driver in the HMI software. EasyBuilder Pro has drivers for most common PLC brands, for example Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi and Omron, plus Modbus TCP and RTU. You then link tags to PLC addresses. cMT models with CAN bus also handle CANopen and SAE J1939.

What is the difference between HMI and SCADA?

An HMI is the operator interface at one machine, while SCADA supervises a whole plant or several sites from a central computer. SCADA collects data from many PLCs, stores history and handles alarms and reports, and usually includes HMI screens of its own. Movicon can be used for both, and the Weintek cMT-SVRX-820 provides an OPC UA server that passes HMI data on to SCADA.

Which HMI panel do I need?

Choose the HMI by screen size and resolution first: 4.3 to 7 inches suits a simple machine, while 10 to 15.6 inches suits overviews with trends and many alarms. Then check the front protection, typically IP65 or IP66, the operating temperature, ports such as dual Ethernet, CAN bus or MPI, and whether a wide-angle display is needed for the viewing position.
