Support Arm and Control Panel Systems

Support arm and control panel systems mount HMIs, touch panels and controls ergonomically at the machine, where the operator needs them. SCN supplies support arm systems, operator control panels and HMI enclosures, including Eco enclosures and the ECO PRO panel with front sheets, as well as coupling towers, keyboard systems, kiosk and stand systems and LED signal lights. The systems are used in machine building, on production lines, in food and pharmaceutical processing and in self-service kiosks. The products come from Teknokol. Our engineers help you choose the right arm system, enclosure size, load capacity and mounting for your application.

Support arm systems and control panels – HMI enclosures, operator stations and kiosks from Teknokol

A support arm system carries an HMI, touch panel, monitor or control box at the machine, so the operator can turn, tilt and swing it to a comfortable working position while the cables run protected inside the tubes. Combined with an operator control panel or HMI enclosure, it creates an ergonomic operator station on machine tools, packaging lines, robot cells and process plants. SCN supplies support arm and control panel systems from Teknokol.

The range is modular: support arm systems in aluminium rated for 450 N or 1,100 N at 1,000 mm arm length, and the stainless steel TK048 series; operator control panels and HMI enclosures, including TKP2000 enclosures and IP66 stainless steel enclosures in the IP150 series; keyboard systems, kiosk and stand systems, coupling towers and LED signal lights. TK60 modules such as wall brackets, rotatable joints, tilt modules and VESA and HMI adapters connect the parts. Touch panels themselves are under industrial HMI and operator panels.

How to choose: start with the total weight of panel, enclosure and keyboard and the arm length you need, because the load rating falls as the arm gets longer. Then choose material and IP rating for the environment, mounting on wall, machine or floor, and the interface to the HMI: VESA or HMI adapter.

Frequently asked questions

How much weight can a support arm system carry?

It depends on the system size and the arm length. The Teknokol systems in the range are rated at 450 N or 1,100 N with a 1,000 mm arm, roughly 45 kg or 110 kg. A shorter arm carries more and a longer arm less, so add up the weight of HMI, enclosure, keyboard and cables and keep a safety margin.

Aluminium or stainless steel – which material should I choose?

Choose stainless steel in food, beverage, pharmaceutical and other washdown areas where cleaning agents and high-pressure water are used; Teknokol's TK048 tubes and IP150 enclosures are made for that. Aluminium is lighter and the usual choice in dry factory environments such as machine tools, assembly lines and packaging.

What IP rating does an HMI enclosure need?

Typically IP65 where the enclosure meets dust and splashing, and IP66 where it is hosed down; the Teknokol stainless steel enclosures in the range are rated IP66. The whole station is only as tight as its weakest point, so cable glands, the HMI front seal and the joint to the support arm must reach the same rating.

How is an HMI mounted on a support arm?

The HMI is either built into an operator control panel or enclosure that hangs on the arm, or mounted directly with a VESA adapter such as the TK60-839 or an HMI connection adapter from the TK60-815 to TK60-818 range. Tilt modules TK60-840 to TK60-846 let the operator adjust the viewing angle, and the cables run inside the arm.
