The Airpax™ 6700 series is a RoHS-compliant, single-pole, single-throw subminiature bimetal thermostat with distinct snap action, providing accurate and reliable sensing and switching in one and the same component.
The 6700 series thermostat dimensionally follows the international package standard Y220 / TO220. The 6700 can therefore be placed and soldered automatically on circuit boards with fast automated equipment, eliminating the costly manual placement and connection currently required for most thermostats in power supplies.
The 6700 provides fast and distinct response with excellent repeatability. The thermostat has a switching capacity of up to 0.5 A at 48 V DC and handles low-level switching down to 0.001 A–0.020 A at 5 V DC for 100,000 cycles. The temperature is factory set and cannot be adjusted in the field.
Heat transfer takes place mainly via the terminals and the mounting bracket, making the unit ideal both for surface mounting and for sensing ambient air temperature. A nickel-plated copper mounting bracket is included as standard; alternatively, a laminated plastic mounting bracket can be used for higher dielectric strength and VDE approval.
The Airpax™ 6700 series is primarily developed for thermal management in power supplies but is also very well suited for densely populated circuit boards. Typical uses are to light a signal lamp, give an audible alarm, energise a control circuit to send a message to a display or even break a circuit to shut down a system. Applications include computers and peripherals, aerospace, automotive, medical equipment and test equipment.
