Moxa DA-920E: fanless vPAC server for digital substations

Moxa DA-920E brings virtual protection, automation and control together on one fanless, IEC 61850-3 compliant server, built for software-defined and unmanned substations.

One platform for protection, automation and monitoring

Utilities are moving protection and control from dedicated devices to software. The DA-920E is a 2U rack server that runs protection, automation and monitoring applications as virtual machines on one platform. According to Moxa, it is the first fanless vPAC server for the power industry that complies with IEC 61850-3.

  • No fans: one less moving part to fail and no performance throttling in warm cabinets
  • 8-core Intel Xeon D-1834 and up to 256 GB memory for many virtual machines
  • Four SSD bays with RAID 0/1/5/10, NVMe M.2 and PCIe x16, x8 and x4 slots
  • Operation from -25 to 55 °C, single or dual power supply and IPMI remote management
  • IEC 61850-3, IEEE 1613, IEC 60255 and EN 50121-4

The server suits utilities, grid operators and system integrators building digital substations, especially remote and unmanned sites where every site visit costs time. It is hardware-agnostic and runs software from different vendors, so the substation is not locked to one supplier.
